Selling my parents' home
I'm the youngest of eight kids: seven boys and me. My dad passed away a few years ago, and my mom passed away in December 2025. Both passed at home, with hospice, and my two kids and I were there for both of them. From the first day of hospice to the end, my kids were right there, caring for their grandparents and supporting me.
Thank goodness my parents had put their home in a trust. We knew what they wanted. I sold the home myself. It was emotional to hold an open house, but I kept looking at it as a realtor at a client's home and not as my parents' home. We were grieving our matriarch.
I learned how much a family is juggling after the sale, not just before it. Now I walk other families through the real estate side, alongside their attorney.
How I got here
Real estate has been part of my life since college. I worked for KB Homes, starting at the front desk and then assisting in sales and marketing, land acquisition, mortgages and out in the field with the construction superintendents. Later I became a loan processor and then a loan officer, where I learned I love working with people more than paperwork.
When my kids were in school and busy with school and club sports, I wanted a better balance between work and family, so I spent 17 years managing dental practices. I enjoyed the work, but I never stopped thinking about real estate. Once my kids went off to college, I went back to it and got my license in 2018. Those first years, I hustled. I never said no to an appointment and practically lived in my car on the weekends.
Today about 6 in 10 of my sales come from past clients and referrals. Clients become friends, and I'm still their person years after closing.
Where I live and work
Modesto is home now. I live in Northgate and I'm getting to know the city one street at a time. Most of my business is in Stockton and across San Joaquin County. I raised my family in Brentwood and still help clients in East Contra Costa.
