For agents

Thinking about eXp? Let's talk, agent to agent.

I joined eXp in 2020 for one reason: mentorship. Here's how the model really works, what it costs, what it offers, and why the people you join matter more than the brokerage name.

Why I joined eXp

In 2020, during COVID, I was a panel speaker on an online mastermind for top producers. One of the other speakers was Kenny Truong, a leader whose career I'd followed for years. I had always said I'd love to be mentored by him, and we finally met.

A few months after Kenny moved his business to eXp, I followed. What I got was more than one mentor. I got a whole group of leaders I can call, weekly meetings, trainings and collaboration, and in-person team events. That's why I tell every agent the same thing: who you join under matters.

How the eXp model works

eXp is a cloud brokerage. There's no physical office to pay for, so you work from your own home, your clients' kitchen tables, or wherever your business is. Here are the numbers eXp publishes for U.S. agents, as of October 2026:

  • Commission split: you keep 80% until you've paid eXp a $16,000 cap in your anniversary year. After that, you keep 100% for the rest of that year (transaction fees still apply).
  • Fees: $149 one time to start, $85 a month, and $25 broker review plus $60 risk management per transaction (the risk management fee caps at $750 a year).
  • Mentor program: newer agents in the eXp Mentor Program pay an extra 20% split on their first three transactions. That pays for the hands-on mentoring.
  • Revenue share: explained in plain words in the next section.
  • Stock: agents can earn eXp stock for milestones like a first sale or capping, and the ICON award pays up to $16,000 in stock for top production and culture goals. Stock awards vest over time, and most agents earn little or none.

Fees and plans can change, so always confirm on eXp's own income page before you decide.

Revenue share, in plain words

Revenue share is eXp's way of thanking agents who help the company grow. When an agent you invited to eXp closes a sale, eXp pays you part of its own share of that commission. It never comes out of the other agent's pocket, and they pay nothing extra.

  • The pool: eXp sets aside 50% of its company share of each commission to pay out as revenue share.
  • Seven levels: you can earn on agents you invite yourself (level 1) and, as your group grows, on the agents they invite (levels 2 to 7).
  • Unlocking levels: levels 1 to 3 are open to everyone. Deeper levels open as more of the agents you personally invited are actively closing sales. Capping or earning ICON status can unlock deeper levels for 13 months.
  • Getting paid: U.S. agents can cash out earned revenue share right away with Pay Now, for a $1 fee or 1% of the amount, whichever is greater.

The honest part: revenue share is not a salary and not guaranteed. It depends on the agents in your group closing sales, and on you helping them succeed. eXp reports that the typical agent earns $0 in revenue share. I think of it as a bonus for mentoring well, not a reason to join.

Compare it with your own numbers

A split doesn't tell the whole story. eXp has a free calculator where you enter your own production, fees and expenses and see today next to eXp, side by side. Run it before our call, or we can go through it together.
